Creating engaging blended learning doesn’t have to take months, a team of specialists, or complex tools. In this live Arlo webinar, cLearn CEO Jeff Makey shared how his team used Arlo’s new elearning functionality to transform existing training materials into interactive and engaging courses.
The session, hosted by Arlo’s Andre van den Assum and joined by Ben Mather, Arlo’s Senior Product Marketer, offered a practical look at how training providers can use simple, AI-assisted design to create impactful blended experiences that learners actually love.
Start with your learner at the center
For Jeff, the shift to blended learning wasn’t about adopting new technology for its own sake, it was about designing around the learner.
“Everything we build at cLearn starts with one question,” Jeff said. “What will make the learning experience easier, more accessible, and more meaningful for our participants?”
That philosophy led cLearn to pivot from purely instructor-led programs to an integrated model that combines live training with on-demand, interactive elearning. The result? Learners can revisit core content at their own pace, while trainers spend more time facilitating and less time repeating information.
Designing certification courses that engage
Next, Jeff shared how this approach informed the design of cLearn’s Instructional Design Certification course. The course blends instructor-led sessions with short, focused online modules that reinforce learning between workshops. The formula is simple – introduction, ILT session, recall, introduction, repeat.
This format not only increases engagement but also creates measurable improvement in learner outcomes. “We saw completion rates rise and participants telling us they actually looked forward to the online components,” Jeff noted. “That’s when we knew we were onto something.”

Bringing it to life with Arlo
Arlo’s Ben Mather built a sample elearning module – showcasing how easy it is to upload content, configure assessments, and automate course access links and emails.
Using existing slides, PDFs, and Jeff’s input, with Arlo’s built-in authoring tools, Ben quickly uploaded materials, applied consistent branding, and used AI prompts to structure the flow.
“The beauty of it is you can experiment with different formats such as quizzes, short videos, downloadable resources and see what really resonates,” Jeff said.
Ben’s walkthrough demonstrated how what once felt like a daunting project for cLearn, became a fast, creative process. The cLearn team could iterate, test, and publish modules directly within Arlo, creating a seamless learner journey from registration to completion.

Key takeaways
Jeff and Ben wrapped up the session with key takeaways:
- Start with learning outcomes in mind
- Be intentional about how you maximize in-person training vs elearning
- Use Arlo to dramatically speed up elearning creation
- Always copy check content, and make it fun and engaging
- Tailor the experience: right content, right time, easy to access
With the right tools and mindset, any training provider can modernize their programs and deliver blended experiences that truly make an impact.
“Start small,” Jeff advised. “Take one existing course and reimagine part of it online. You’ll be surprised how quickly it all comes together.”
