Productivity hacks: screen size, resolution and multiple tabs

There is a similar trend occurring with mobile phones, tablets, TV’s, have you noticed? With every new release and update, our devices’ screens are getting increasing in size and resolution. We continue to upgrade because it’s more productive and more efficient to check our social media, use apps and watch videos on these larger devices.

The same thing can be said of our work. Better resolution, bigger screen sizes, multiple tabs and monitors can increase the efficiency with which we work. Whether you are an Arlo user or not, keep reading to see some valuable tips on how to increase your work efficiency.

Work with two monitors

At Arlo we recommend that admin users should be working with two monitors. How often do you find yourself flicking between tabs or applications because you need both to complete a task. Obviously having two monitors allows you to mitigate the inefficiency this causes as you can have visibility over both applications at once.

Use higher resolution and bigger monitors

Higher resolution monitors give you can give you increased sharpness and more space to work with. For example, a 27-inch 1440p screen has an advantage of 70% more space than a typical 1920 x 1080 model. In a study conducted by the University of Utah findings revealed that people with bigger monitors were able to complete tasks 52% faster than those with smaller monitors (MonitorNerds).

Using multiple higher resolution monitors in conjunction with larger display size will significantly improve your productivity.

Use multiple tabs

For most browser based softwares opening items in a new tab is extremely efficient. For example, when using a filtered list, if you open a record in the same tab, when you return to the list you will likely find your filters removed. To avoid re-adding your filters or any other changes you have made every time you open a new page, open the link in a new tab.

To do this simply right click and select “Open link in new tab”. You can also hold the CTRL key when you left click on a link to open the link in a new tab.

You can edit your opened record, close the tab and go back to the original tab without it being refreshed.

Because you probably spend a significant amount of time behind your computer, make sure you can get the most out of it. Consider upgrading your monitor and using multiple tabs. This will make you more productive, it will save you time and it will help you get the most out of the tools you use.
