You’ll be a seasoned technical leader able to drive successful software development processes and oversee multiple technical functions to deliver value to our customers. We are on a journey to transform the way we work, so we’ll look to you to bring your experience of DevOps or Agile transformations to guide us through the next steps.  You’ll also need a keen eye for what’s happening in the market, how we’re tracking against our business objectives, and what is needed to serve our evolving go-to-market/product strategies.  You’ll be comfortable bringing these insights (and more) to the executive table to help inform the strategic and decision-making processes for the entire business.

What you’ll do

As the Head of Engineering, you will ensure that we are delivering value to our customers and business through the development and support of relevant software.  

With a focus on leadership, management and coaching, you will grow and support the people in the Engineering team, so they are capable of creating customer value with speed, quality and security.

You will champion our continuing journey to improve the way we work, implementing Modern Agile and DevSecOps concepts.

You will be a key member of the Executive team, contributing to the strategic and decision-making processes for the entire business.


You will be responsible for:

  • Lead, grow and develop direct reports, including software engineering, quality assurance, and security staff.
  • Ensure the team is continuously developing and has learning and development plans in place for the skills we need now and in the future.
  • Recruit, train and integrate new members of the team.
  • Be a role model for our values and set clear expectations by giving clear and honest feedback, and promptly address any performance or behaviour issues
  • Build and promote a positive working environment for the team.
  • Oversee career development and progression in the team, including setting individual goals.


  • Work with product, technology and project/squad leads to navigate software & delivery challenges.
  • Work with engineering and product teams in shaping how we work.
  • Guide the right platform & investment choices in people and processes.
  • Ensure delivery is consistent with Agile processes across the team, including identifying and resolving any bottlenecks.
  • Ensure that technology standards, quality assurance, and best practices are maintained. 
  • Troubleshoot with stakeholders to ensure the right people and projects are lining up at the right time.


  • Ensure that developers, QA, security and operations work together to deliver the outcomes the business needs.
  • Work with the CTO to articulate to colleagues the company’s technological vision, opportunities, and challenges.
  • Foster collaborative, constructive working relationships with all key stakeholders across the business.
  • Coach and mentor key relationships across the development team and with wider stakeholders across the organisation.
  • Work with our customer service & operations teams. 


  • A minimum of 3 years in a people leadership role within a development or technology environment.
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in development or technology focused environments. 
  • Proven experience in a role leading significant transformations of teams and technology stacks.
  • Proven track record of product delivery and process improvement.
  • Experience in Agile planning and delivery.
  • Experience of cultivating and supporting a DevSecOps culture.
  • Demonstrable experience in fostering Psychological Safety. mentoring and motivating others.
  • Familiarity with the Software Development Lifecycle.

  • Educated to degree level preferred but not essential.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to translate data into insights.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfort in an SME environment where you need to move quickly and wear many hats.
  • Results-driven mentality, self-motivated, enthusiastic and with a “can do” attitude.
